LEAP Community Leadership Development Workshop - "Understanding Your Environment": Current Issues and Concerns of the Asian Pacific American (APA) Community at the Local, State, National and Global Level

Please join Leadership Education For Asian Pacifics (LEAP) in the first of a series of community leadership development workshops sponsored by the Ford Foundation and developed to meet the needs of Asian Pacific American
(APA) community based organizations (CBOs). The workshop series is based on a range of leadership development needs identified by APA community leaders from across the country. The kick-off workshops are intended to develop knowledge, skills and resources in the areas of leading change and business management.

The first workshop in the "kick-off" series is "Understanding Your Environment," which takes place on Monday August 30 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Description: Today's Community Based Organization (CBO) staff and volunteers must be able to quickly assess and respond to the changing needs of their community. This requires knowledge of current issues and concerns of our Asian Pacific American (APA) community at the local, state, national and global level.

APA leaders identified that community leaders need to be open to change and a diversity of ideas as the environment, issues and needs necessitate. The ability to be open would better prepare the APA community leader to create a
shared vision of APAs, increase government representation, decrease political apathy, train and educate others, manage diversity, manage organizational finances, and sustain the organization.

Target Audience:
* Entry level Community Based Organization (CBO) staff
* CBO volunteers
* Those individuals not familiar with APA community issues

Presenter: Sally Huang-Nissen
